Amedeo Belli

Iris’s father · class of 1896 · b. 19 February 1896

Amedeo Belli — Iris’s father — was born on the 19th of February, 1896, in the hill town of Monte San Giovanni Campano, and came of age just as Italy marched into the First World War. His was the class of 1896 — the boys called up for the Alpine passes and the bloody line of the Isonzo.

Whatever the war asked of him, he came through it, and made his life in Rome. There he married Palmira Giarrocchi, and in 1923 a daughter was born to them — Iris, who would one day carry the Belli name clear across the Atlantic.

Note. His WWI service is expected from his conscription class but not yet documented; the ruoli matricolari of the Frosinone military district (classes 1877–1914) are the record to pull.
